Learn How to Activate and Test the Member's Approval Process.

Where do I activate the Member Approval?

By default, this process is OFF, which means all members are automatically approved. If you want to review and approve members manually in your referral program, follow the instructions below.

  1. Sign in to your Genius Referrals account.
  2. In the navigation menu on the left side, click Preferences under Program Settings.
  3. Next, click on Member Approval on the Preferences list.
  4. Once on this page, use the toggle button on the right side of the screen to turn this process "ON" and select the checkboxes Advocate or Referral to activate it, or you can select them both.
  5. After you've selected the checkbox, click on the Save button.

Referral Approval Flow

A Referral enters with a Pending status and needs to be reviewed and manually Approved or Denied (or automatically via API). To approve a Referral, you can move from Pending to Active status. To reject a Referral, you can move from Pending to Denied status. Additionally, you can move a Referral from Denied to Active status.


Advocate Approval Flow

An Advocate enters with a Pending status and needs to be reviewed and manually Approved or Denied (or automatically via API). To approve an Advocate, you can move from Pending to Active. To reject an Advocate, you can move from Pending to Denied status. Additionally, you can move from Pending to Inactive to deactivate an Advocate.


  • An advocate can be moved from Pending status to Active, Denied, and Inactive.
  • An advocate can be moved from Denied status to Inactive and Suspended.
  • An advocate can be moved from Active status to Suspended and Inactive.
  • An advocate can be moved from Inactive status to Active and Denied.
  • An advocate can be moved from Suspended status to Active, Pending, and Denied.

How do I Test the Member Approval?

Follow the steps below to ensure your member approval process is working correctly.

  1. In the navigation menu on the left side, click on the Website Builder page.
  2. Find your Advocate's Portal and click on the Link action.
  3. On your Advocate's Portal page, sign up as a new advocate.
Once you complete the sign-up process, the new account will be automatically on Pending status.
How do I Manually Update a Member Status?


  1. From the Advocate's page, locate the Advocate you'd like to update.
  2. Under the Actions column, click on the three dots, then choose the status to which you'd like to move the Advocate.
