Multi-Level Marketing Campaign Setup

Learn how to set up a Multi-Level Marketing in your reward structure campaign.

Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) it's been around for a long time, and it's been used by brands to create affiliation schemes and reward indirect advocates. A multi-level marketing campaign is a win-win for both the company and the participants.


The company gets new customers, and the participants get a commission on the new customers' purchases.


Every time a direct advocate earns a bonus on an MLM campaign, the indirect advocate also earns a bonus.

Please Note: By default, when you open a Genius Referrals account, we create your first referral MLM campaign. The details of your default campaign are based on the input entered into the onboarding process. You can always edit or customize your MLM campaign whenever you want.

How do I find the MLM campaign configuration?

To find the MLM campaign configuration, click on the Campaign located on the left-side navigation menu. Then click on the 3 dots under the actions column, then click Edit. Then click on Continue until you get to the MLM tab.

How to Set Up MLM Campaign Step By Step?

Step 1: Select the Value of the Bonus

This is used to calculate the bonus amount. The calculation can be based on a fixed or percentage amount.
On the dropdown menu, select the value of the bonus. You can choose one of the following:

  • Percentage: Determines the percentage of the referral's purchase that the advocate can earn.

  • Fixed: Determines the fixed amount the advocate can earn. Use the fixed method to reward an indirect advocate (advocate level x) a fixed bonus value once the direct advocate earns a bonus.
MLM Campaign Example:

In this scenario, both the direct and indirect advocate earns a bonus. John is the indirect advocate, Matt is the direct advocate, and Anne is the referral. When Anne completes a purchase, Matt receives $10, and John receives $5.al.

In this scenario, John is the indirect advocate, Matt is the direct advocate, and Anne is the referral. When Anne completes the purchase of $100, Matt receives $10, and John wins $10 (10% of $100)
Step 2: Threshold Value

Additionally, you can add to a cap to limit the total aggregated amount of bonus that the indirect advocate can receive on a level.

After setting up your MLM campaign, click Create and then Continue till you get the Finish button.

In this scenario, John is the indirect advocate, Matt is the direct advocate, and Anne is the referral. When Anne completes a purchase, Matt earns $10 and John $5. John will continue to earn a $5 bonus up to $300.

Creating Multiple levels on your referral program campaign

You can create multiple levels to reward multiple levels of indirect advocates. The following image shows an example of a three levels campaign.

Levels:

  • On level 2: the indirect advocate receives $5 every time a direct advocate earns a bonus.

  • On level 3: the indirect advocate receives $3 every time a direct advocate earns a bonus.

  • On level 4: the indirect advocate receives 1% of the purchase amount made by the referral every time a direct advocate earns a bonus.
